A review of adaptation options in fisheries management to support resilience and transition under socio-ecological change

چکیده

Abstract Social-ecological systems dependent on fisheries must be resilient or adapt to remain viable in the face of change. Here, we identified possible interventions (termed “adaptation options”) from published literature, aimed at supporting social ecological resilience and/or aiding adaptation changes induced by environmental stressors. Our searches centered nations/regions across North America, Europe, and South Pacific, encompassing literature with without a climate change focus, compare how, when, whom are currently potentially implemented. We expected that options within context would have greater focus enhancing due connection assessment methodology. Instead, found resilience, likely indicating management adaptation. This pattern, along more extensive use responsively outside change, an importance bottom-up influences implementing them, suggests general lack centralized planning organization regards stakeholders. Determining how created, chosen, implemented is crucial step external ecosystem-based management, especially if planned stakeholder adaption goal.

Introduction to Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Management Options

Climate is a critical factor shaping the structure and function of forest ecosystems in the Southern United States. Human induced changes in climate systems have resulted in an increase in the global average air temperature of about 0.8°C since the 1900s (Pachuri and Reisinger 2007). Data from long-term weather stations show that overall, the continental United States has warmed during the past...

A theory of socio-ecological system change

Private foundations and other organizations concerned with improving society these days frequently ask grantees to articulate their “theory of change.” By this they usually mean their strategy for accomplishing the stated goals of the project, rather than a real, general theory of how social change happens (Anderson 2005). For example, the Center for Theory of Change defines it this way: “A The...
